Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are emerging as powerful tools for building context aware, AI assisted development. In this session, you’ll learn how MCP servers can accelerate Power BI development by helping you generate semantic models, write DAX, and create role level security through natural language interaction with your data models.

We’ll walk through installing and configuring two MCP servers, Fabric, and Power BI. We will show how to connect to MCP Servers through VSCode and use it to interact directly with Fabric. Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service. You’ll see demonstrations of real-world tasks driven by AI through the MCP interface.

Because MCP servers can access sensitive model structures and datasets, we will also review key data security considerations and best practices to ensure you can leverage this technology safely and responsibly.

If you’ve been wondering how AI can enhance and accelerate your code this session will give you the practical foundation you need to get started.

You will learn:

  • About the fundamental concepts of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and describe how they integrate with Power BI to support AI‑assisted development.
  • How to install, configure, and connect to an MCP server using VSCode
  • About potential data‑security risks associated with MCP‑enabled AI and formulate strategies to use MCP servers safely.
