With a few exceptions, DNS has remained largely unchanged in the last few releases of Windows Server. To support today's modern infrastructure with continuous availability and dynamic workload placement, Microsoft has created "intelligent DNS" with the introduction of DNS polices in Windows Server 2016. Using DNS policies, you can ensure high availability for their applications by ensuring clients always connect to the healthiest and optimal resources. You can use DNS policies to route clients to the closet endpoint based on their physical location, and even respond with different resources based on the time of day. Security is enhanced by allowing for the blacklisting of DNS queries from malicious IPs or FQDNs, allowing or denying specific types of queries, and allowing or denying requests based on the originating subnet.

You will learn:

  • Common uses cases for DNS policies
  • To define DNS policies for geographic traffic distribution
  • How to control DNS responses based on time of day
  • How to allow or deny DNS queries based on type or network location
