SQL Server 2016's Polybase feature provides the ability to analyze at data stored outside of SQL Server using SQL Server relational database queries. This powerful new tool provides the ability to combine data stored in a number of different locations with an existing relational database, without needing to import data into SQL Server. Data stored in Hadoop or large flat files can be analyzed together with SQL Server to provide the ability to provide in depth analyst on large datasets without needing to apply other languages and tools, from within SSMS.

The session will demonstrate the Polybase configurations, query formats for accessing Polybase data, and examples of query performance for different types of queries. Attendees will find out limitations of Polybase queries, performance information, and what kind of data can be analyzed with Polybase.

You will learn:

  • How to analyze data within SQL Server using Polybase
  • When to use Polybase by understanding its strengths and the weaknesses
  • The configuration steps needed for implementing Polybase into a SQL Environment
